Enjoy some Bastille Day celebrations, opera, theater from classic to innovative, and more. Here’s what caught my eye for some upcoming events.
Thursday, July 10

Opera lovers (and all those who admire young talent) take note: graduates of the Merola Opera Program will perform extended scenes from Donizetti’s Il Campanello, Roberto Devereux, Anna Bolena, and Don Pasquale, and Puccini’s Suor Angelica at the Schwabacher Summer Concert: : It’s Complicated — Love & Opera. A second performance is scheduled for Saturday. Tickets from $18.

The San Francisco Playhouse is showing the classic My Fair Lady, which looks pretty entertaining from the press photos. It’s considered one of the greatest musicals ever, and everything I’ve seen at the playhouse I’ve thoroughly enjoyed, so I’m sure this production won’t disappoint. Through Sept. 3. Tickets from $63.
Friday, July 11

Celebrate Bastille Day and honor the city’s French history and cuisine at Bastille on Belden. Enjoy live French music, French-themed dishes and promotions, a pop-up French bakery, a wine bar, mime performances, a Belden Eiffel Tower, and a giant croissant for photo opps. Attendees will receive complimentary berets while supplies last. 4:30–8:30 p.m. Free, preregistration encouraged.
Saturday, July 12

Keep the Bastille Day celebration going at the beyond-charming French bistro on Clement Street at Chapeau!, which will offer a special menu of escargots, French onion soup (mais bien sûr!), duck cassoulet, moules frites, and more. Through Sunday.

Just stumbled across this, which sounds great: Catapult: Magic Shadows. It’s a shadow dance company that presents a combination of dance, storytelling, and sculpture using a screen to create dancing shadow silhouettes of everything from mountains to helicopters to a house with a window and the people inside, while telling a fully realized story. Tickets from $72.
Sunday, July 13

Caviar lovers naturally will want to celebrate National Caviar Day, right? Do it at the third annual Caviar Crawl over in Tiburon with themed stations at participating restaurants on Main Street, pop-ups, special menu bites, pairings, wine, and much more. (The San Francisco celebration happens next Saturday, July 19.) Tickets from $50.

It’s the 127th birthday of the Ferry Building! So go celebrate our iconic landmark at the Ferry Fest, with a full day of live music, family fun, and more, like specials from the all the cool merchants inside .Free.
Enjoy your weekend and be safe out there, whatever you decide to do.
