Starting today and every day through June 16 is the 41st Annual San Francisco Jazz Festival, featuring 40 shows in four venues with a star-studded lineup of musicians and tributes, like Kenny Garrett, Jane Monheit, an Oscar Peterson celebration, and many more. Tickets start at $25.
Head over to the bandshell in Golden Gate Park for Singer/Song writer Wednesday. Savage Bond, The Welcome Matt, and Three Flower Jam will perform separate sets starting at 4 p.m. and ending at 7 p.m. Free admission.

Today is First Thursdays at SFMOMA, the museum’s free community day for locals. Act fast to reserve your tickets online (still available as of this writing). Don’t miss the Creative Growth exhibition and “The Art of Noise.” If today doesn’t work, Sunday is Free Family Day.
How about this at the Commonwealth Club: Mike Lynch and Ken Widner discuss their new book, Alcatraz: The Last Escape, about the enduring mystery of the escape of Frank Morris and brothers John and Clarence Anglin in a makeshift raft in 1962 and, although no trace of them has ever been found, Widner presents compelling evidence his two uncles did indeed survive and made a life in Brazil — and mobsters Mickey Cohen and Whitey Bulger may have been involved. Tickets $20–$50.

Garuda’s Wing, Magic Theatre’s new production promises to be, of course, a magical experience combining generations, histories, and bloodlines with international intrigue spanning time and continents as it follows ghosts in a tale of search, discovery, murder, and more, all while exploring the effects of colonization. Performances Wednesday through Sunday through June 22. Tickets $30–$75.
If you’d like to see the S.F. Symphony on July 7 at the Stern Grove Festival, tickets go on sale today. The festival opens on June 23, and those tickets are already sold out , so just sayin.’ Free admission.
Saturday, June 8
Up for a challenge? Meet at the Lands End Lookout Visitors Center for the Crosstown Trail: North to South Crosstown Trail Walk, which is 17 miles if you’re game, but you can bow out at any time and no one will judge. Free admission.
Sunday, June 9
Head to Feinstein’s at the Nikko for the often-sold-out Mimosas & Motown, with a scrumptious all-you-can-eat buffet brunch, which you can dance off to the live Motown music. Tickets $74.
