Muni riders and the public who encounter Muni vehicles wrapped in tie-dyed colors should not trip out.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) on Tuesday debuted its Trippy Train and Pschedelibuses as part of celebrations this month and August to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Grateful Dead. Two buses and one train are decked out with swirls of colors, flowers, and peace symbols for a groovy adventure. Riders can find these special buses on the 5-Fulton and 7-Haight/Noriega. A one-car N-Judah train is also wrapped with psychedelic colors.

“When I went to my first Dead show over 30 years ago, I never thought I’d be welcoming the band back to San Francisco,” Director of Transportation Julie Kirshbaum said, who was sporting a Muni tie-dye t-shirt that the public can purchase at the agency’s official Muni store.

Events celebrating the Grateful Dead will take place citywide, including a three-day concert by Dead & Company in Golden Gate Park from Aug. 1–3. The park will also host Shakedown Street on the JFK Promenade between Transverse Drive and Blue Heron Lake Drive on concert days, where concertgoers can visit vendors to purchase Grateful Dead merchandise.

On Aug. 1, city officials said they will rename a block of Harrington Street after Jerry Garcia in the Excelsior neighborhood. The following day, Aug. 2, the city will celebrate Garcia on “Jerry Day” at the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater.

“This is where Jerry grew up, and it’s where his story started,” Mayor Daniel Lurie said.

Lurie is banking on a significant economic boost from the events scheduled next month. Following the concerts by the Grateful Dead & Company, Outside Lands will take place in Golden Gate Park on Aug. 8–10, followed by a concert by Zach Bryan and Kings of Leon on Aug. 15.

San Francisco Travel has a list of events celebrating the Grateful Dead anniversary on its website.
